Chapter 758 – Rescue Plan

Unexpectedly, although the class leader was very punctual and anal about making her appointments, she didn’t come to our house the next day.

The class leader originally planned to come at 10:00 to teach my dad how to cook, but she called me at 8:00 and apologized that she couldn’t make it.

“I’m really sorry, I made you guys wait for nothing… I’ll have to come over another day, again I’m sorry…”

At the moment, my dad had just gotten out of bed and I’ve only been awake for 15 minutes (I’ve gotten lazier after having heart problems). We haven’t even started to prepare for the class leader’s arrival, so her apology was unnecessary. Everyone will inevitably run into unexpected emergencies, and my dad isn’t in a hurry to learn how to cook.

I could tell from the phone call that the class leader wasn’t calling me from a quiet place. I’m afraid she wasn’t indoors, but on the side of a very noisy highway. The sound of the large trucks passing back and forth was ear-piercing.

It was summer vacation, but the class leader was by a busy road at 8 o’clock, maybe it was even a highway. I was really curious about where the class leader was and what she was doing.

“Class leader, it’s fine if you can’t make it, but why aren’t you at home first in the morning? Are you on the highway, did something happen?”

“It, it’s nothing really.” The class leader evaded my question, “Get some rest. Once I have time, I’ll teach Uncle Ye how to cook some lighter dishes…”

“Hey, it sounds like you’re in trouble. I didn’t tell anyone but you about my heart problems, so why are you treating me like an outsider? Exactly what kind of trouble did you get roped into?”

“Take it easy and don’t get anxious… It’s not good for your health, and it’s really not a big deal…”

“I’ll be more anxious if you don’t tell me. Did Shu Zhe get into trouble? Did people get into a fight for him and the police was called?”

My wild speculations made the class leader suspicious.

“Why would someone fight for Xiao Zhe? It’s not like Xiao Zhe joined a gang…”

It’s true no one would fight for Shu Zhe, but that might not be true for Xiao Hong. Didn’t Fan Chuan and Xiao Ding get into a fight last time? One of the onlookers also got hit and Fan Chuan ended up in jail.

“Then what happened if it has nothing to do with Shu Zhe? Why are you on the highway and where are you going? Don’t tell me you’re running away from home?”

The class leader got angry, “I’m pretty much considered the head of the family. Even if I had a falling out with my brother, he would be the one to run away, why would I leave?”

“Then the reason you’re on the highway… If you’re not going to tell me the truth, then I’m going to be even more anxious and I’m going to have a heart attack. If you don’t tell me what you’re doing, then I’m going to die right now.”

I said as I made strange sounds and pretended like I was having a heart attack.

The class leader was partially worried I would actually have a heart attack and partially knew I wouldn’t let the matter rest, so she could only tell me what had happened.

“Ye Lin, I’m also not sure if I should be participating. Strictly speaking, what we’re doing right now is illegal…”

Huh, that’s strange, the Justice Devil actually performs illegal deeds? If you already know it’s illegal, then why do you have to do it? Also, it sounds like she isn’t the only one, but she’s actually with a lot of other people. So, it turns out her brother didn’t join a gang, but she did.

As I listened to the class leader’s story, I gradually began to understand what she meant.

To cut the story short, the class leader and fifteen other volunteers stood on the Daguang highway and they were protesting for a controversial “stop the cars to save the dogs” movement.

The Daqing–Guangzhou Expressway, designated as G45, runs from Daqing to Guangzhou. In order to get to the closest entrance to G45, it takes at least an hour drive, so the class leader probably left with the volunteers at 6.

The class leader, who often volunteers at the pet hospital, overheard Xiao Ding say that an animal protection group had found out that a dog-stealing ring was planning to put the pet dogs stolen from Dong Shan City into a truck carrying dogs to be butchered and bring them together to Guangzhou to sell them to dog meat restaurants.

The class leader once saw someone steal a dog in Dong Shan city. It was the scoundrel with the online name of “Luo Ning”. He took advantage of when the class leader and I were chatting on a bench and tried to steal Obama when he was doing his business in the woods. He ended up being kicked by me into a pile of dog shit.

Maybe it was because Luo Ning looked innocent, like the type of student that is like by teachers and has similarity to Shu Zhe, so the class leader was soft-hearted and let him go.

After ward, Luo Ning quickly called his two brothers, the blind Li LaoEr, and Zhao GuangTou, to block the class leader and I in a dead alleyway. He was saying they would first knock me down, then gang rape the class leader. Of course, they didn’t get their way as I used my berserk mode and sent them to the hospital.

The blind Li LaoEr and Zhao GuangTou got their punishment, but Luo Ning escaped. I feel a bit of regret not being able to teach him a lesson that night.

Not soon after, I found out that Luo Ning and Shu Zhe were actually friends online on QQ. Shu Zhe saw someone on the forums paying money for dogs, so he hired a lot of elementary school students to steal the neighborhood dogs. Shu Zhe didn’t even have to do anything himself and was able to ear a lot of middleman fees, so he was very pleased with himself.

One of the reasons I forced Shu Zhe to become a rope model was to punish him for his actions and he didn’t dare to contact Luo Ning anymore. The account he made on QQ called “Zhe Bie” was made specifically to be a middleman, so he didn’t feel bad letting it go.

Now that I think about it, I could have let Shu Zhe invite Luo Ning to meet on QQ, then I would take the opportunity to beat up Luo Ning. Unfortunately, I was tied up with a lot of other different matters and didn’t really think that far.

It’s exactly because the class leader has witnessed someone trying to steal a dog before, so she couldn’t sit still when she heard they were smuggling dogs out of Dong Shan city to be slaughtered. She immediately went online and got into touch with the animal protection group Xiao Ding mentioned.

The animal protection group had a loose structure and was basically entirely composed of volunteers, but their fanaticism was not inferior to similar organizations in foreign countries. After they were sure that the class leader was not a spy sent by dog traffickers, they confided in the class leader about their plan tomorrow to stop the car to rescue the dogs and asked the class leader if she wanted to participate.

The dog traffickers chose to transport the dogs on Tuesday, when many of the volunteers had to work. It was nice to get a student on summer vacation like the class leader, since the more people the better.

Since they had to stop the car on the highway, they were bound to affect other vehicles. The class leader wasn’t sure if the volunteers had reliable information. If the truck didn’t have any stolen pet dogs, but all certified dogs to be butchered, then their actions would be considered the violation of legitimate property of others.

As the class leader was still hesitant, the other party opened QQ voice and a very excited female voice was broadcasted to the class leader:

“Are you not willing to go? Those poor doggies are going to be butchered. Are you not willing to save them with us just so you can sleep a bit longer?”

“I don’t mind waking up earlier, but…” the class leader had to also speak into the mic, “If we can’t prove the truck contains stolen pet dogs, then wouldn’t we have to let them go. If the truck only had dogs to be butchered for meat and they had all the documentation, then we can’t do anything or it would be going against the law…”

“So what if they are dogs butchered for meat?” the other side got mad, “Only demons eat dogs. Or do you only have sympathy for pet dogs and none for those raised to be eaten?”

“No…” the class leader replied, “It’s just once I see those farmed dogs, I’m not sure if I could keep calm, so I don’t want to participate tomorrow…”

“Hmph, it doesn’t matter if there are stolen dogs inside or not, we’re going to be stopping them no matter what. Are you coming or not? If you’re coming, then leave me your cell phone number. A volunteer will come tomorrow morning to pick you up, but if you’re not going to come then forget it. I don’t want to waste any more time with you, there are still other volunteers who want to learn more about the situation.”

“Can, can you wait a bit.” The class leader looked at the ceramic kittens and puppies on her dresser, and the copy of the dog owner’s guide on her desk and couldn’t come to a decision yet.

“Hey, you’re not worried about if we’re scammers, are you?” The other party added, “My name is Ma HuiYu, 26 years old, female. My personal information is clearly written on the website, you can feel free to check if any of my information is fake.”

“Miss Ma, I’m not worried that you’re a scammer. Xiao Ding from the Love Pet hospital familiar with you, so he knows about your general situation…”

“Ah, so you’re Shu Sha, the one Xiao Ding mentioned who often volunteers at the pet hospital?” Ma HuiYu suddenly realized, “If you don’t even give up on sick and dying stray dogs, are you going to give up on those dogs that are about to be slaughtered?”

“I’m not saying I’m giving up on them, but if they aren’t committing any crimes…”

“Anyway, we’re not going to let them transport those dogs.” Ma HuiYu shouted, “I’m going to save them all even if they are all certified dogs to be butchered. We might even have to buy them all, but we definitely won’t ask for money from you students. It’s fine if you just come with us and strengthen our group. Tomorrow is Tuesday, so a lot of us have to go to work. We’re missing people, not money.”

“Doesn’t that mean we’re just buying them through coercion? Also, what would we even do with the dogs we buy?”

“You don’t have to worry about that, we’ve already had talks with caring people, so they might be raised in the suburbs. Tell us if you want to come or not, I have eighty to ninety percent certainty the truck has stolen pet dogs, some might even belong to your neighbors. If you don’t come when you could and reduce the strength of our voice and cause the dog traffickers to get away, then don’t regret it when those doggies end up in the slaughterhouse. Will you be able to sleep at night when they all get butchered?”

“Will a student like me even make a difference?”

“Of course you would be useless by yourself, but we will make a difference as a group. Your home is quite close to the Love Pet Hospital, right? Tomorrow morning at 6:00, I’ll have a volunteer park in front of the Love Pet Hospital and we’ll take you along when we pick up Xiao Ding. You will come, right? I’ll be very disappointed if you don’t, and those dogs that are going to be slaughtered will be even more disappointed.”

“Th-, then okay, I’ll also go tomorrow.”

The class leader, influenced by the other party’s aggressive coaxing, couldn’t remove her worries, so she agreed to go with the other volunteers.
